Appenzeller erwähnt dieses Verfahren nicht (zu den kolorierten Aquatinten Hegis s. App. p. XV) - Blick von leicht erhöhtem Standpunkt talaufwärts in die bewaldete Schlucht mit Strassenkehren und Brücke, im Vordergrund zwei rastende Wanderer mit Hund -- Es ist dies die zweite Brücke (von 3), am eigentlichen Beginn der Viamalaschluchten bei Rongellen (GLS 6, 1910, Via Mala, p. 378). Die erste stand wohl im sog. 'Verlornen Loch', die 3. am südlichen Schluchtende (vgl. u.a. hohenraetien ch/brueckenland-viamala; online). "Die erste, oder nördlichere Brüke wurde [.] 1738, und die 2te, welche 350 Schritte [ca. 225 m] von ihr entfernt ist, 1739, angelegt und aufgeführt. Durch diese beiden Brüken ist nun ein beträchtliches Stük Weges nach der östlichen Seite verlegt, wo gleich hinter der ersten die Strasse ganz in den harten Fels gehauen, und mit einer hohen und sicheren Brustmauer versehen ist." Im Brückenbogen sichtbar ist zudem die nach dem Bau belassene Holzkonstruktion (vgl. S. Margadant, Land und Leute Graubündens im Spiegel der Reiseliteratur, 1978, p. 90 f. und Abb. 7; Ebel p. 55) - "Die Felswände treten [.] nahe zusammen [.] und immer enger und tiefer wird die Kluft, bis in kühnem Bogen eine steinerne Brücke über den mehr als 60 m tiefen Abgrund hinleitet. [.] Die Gegend der zweiten Via Malabrücke zeigt die Landschaft am grossartigsten, die im Wechsel von grellem Tageslicht und finsterm Grauen Bilder voll Romantik und düsterer Erhabenheit enthüllt."
