Decorative Binding. Condizione: Good. Louis K. Harlow, Louis Meynelle, Hiram P. Barnes. Wm. Goodrich Beal & H. B. George (illustratore). The cover has brown cloth with a 1 1/4 in. cameo of Longfellow and gilt letters and decoration. 352 pages; graytone and browntone illustrations. The poems are in 12 categories. The top end of the text block is gilt and has a few light scratches and rubbed spots. The other two ends have darkened. The spine strip's top edge is frayed, and the cloth has darkened. The bottom, front corners of the boards are a little bumped. A gift inscription has a 1896 date; black scribble lines are over the names and also on the name on the bookplate. The last 100 pages' top corners each have a bend line, from 1 3/4 in. to 4 in. One pair of pages has rough-cut opening. Two margins on two of the contents' pages have light stains. The last page has a V-shaped, 1/4 in. closed tear and a crease line on the bottom corner. Scans e-mailed upon request.

First Edition. Octavo (21cm); green pictorial publisher's cloth with red and black printing, stamped in gilt on front and spine; 175pp, frontis., 7 plates. Boards show mild soiling, abrasions and material wear, especially to extremities; lower leading corners gently bumped; spine cocked; textblock partially detached from boards, with exposed lining/super; foxing intermittent throughout text. Just about Very Good. Little He and She is the sixth novel by the prolific Grace Denio Litchfield, who was also well respected for her short stories, poems, and verse. Aimed for younger readers, it tells a heartwarming tale of two aggressively adorable moppets who reunite their curmudgeonly old uncle with his long estranged (but equally curmudgeonly) sister. With frontispiece and seven plate illustrations in b/w, by Louis Meynelle.

Illustrated by Meynelle, Louis Michault; Barnes, Hiram P. et al (illustratore). 194 pp, frontispiece and six illustrations, notes at end. Ivory cloth boards, 6 1/4" x 4 3/8". Chipping to corners, moderate edge wear, chipping, a little soiling mainly on spine and back board. Spine has 1/8" strip at top, 1/4" at bottom missing, with some scuffing and sunning. Front board separated from text block, front free end paper missing. Text in very good condition, clean and unmarked. Silver embossed decorative stamped binding. A maroon, green and black floral design on front board. Spine has silver lettering and four bands with maroon background and ivory flowers outlined in silver. Frontispiece is a portrait of Sir Walter Scott. Six plates tipped in by noted 19th century illustrators Louis Michault Meynelle, Hiram P. Barnes, and others. The plates were under copyright to S.E. Cassino, a 19th and early 20th century publisher. Publication date not stated, but Altemus was publishing these books in the late 1890s. A beautiful rendition of this poem in six cantos. Sir Walter Scott tells of events leading up to the Battle of Flodden Field, September 9, 1513, climaxing an ill-fated Scottish invasion of England.; 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

This very limited octavo volume has been elaborately bound in full green leather with a red, tan & purple inlaid leather decoration to the front & rear covers, and embellished with gold ornamentation and lettering. The endpapers are also full leather with color inlays and gold embellishments. The handsewn headbands are red, green & white and the two green & white bookmarks are of the same material. The frontispiece is a photogravure portrait by de Maricot of de Kock at 30 years of age. The book is illustrated by four artists, as follows: -Charles H. White: one original full-page pen & ink drawing; two photogravures, both in two states with one each signed by the artist; and an original etching in two states, one signed by the artist. -W. J. Sinnott: two original pen & ink drawings in text. -Albert de Ford Pitney: two photogravures, each in two states with one of each signed by the artist. -Louis Meynelle: two pen & ink drawings in text.
