Das führt zu einer strikten Trennung der Begriffe ¿Attraktivität¿ und ¿Ästhetik¿, die unterschiedliche Dinge bezeichnen. Daran anknüpfend werden die Ansätze der evolutionären Kulturtheorie und der evolutionären Psychologie dargelegt, um zu untersuchen, ob ein Kompromiss der Naturwissenschaft und der traditionellen Ästhetik möglich ist. Die Diskussion um die Definitionen von Kunst wird sich annähernd kongruent zur übrigen Diskussion entwickeln. Um dies zu zeigen, werden verschiedene Werke zu dem Thema ¿evolutionäre Ästhetik¿ in die Argumentation mit einbezogen.Während Kunst im deutschen Idealismus als ein Produkt von rein geistigem Interesse verstanden wurde, änderte sich diese Auffassung spätestens seit der Evolutionstheorie von Charles Darwin, der sinnlichen Erklärungen ästhetischer Phänomene die Grundlage bietet. Gemeinsam ist den beiden Ansätzen, dass sie die Ästhetik als den Indikator für Kunst anerkennen. Auf der einen Seite Hegel, auf der anderen Darwin. Wenn dieser schreibt: ¿In the distant future, I see open fields for far more important researches. Psychology will be based on a new foundation, that of the necessary acquirement of each mental power and capacity by graduation. Light will be thrown on the origin of man and his history.¿, so ist seine Prophezeiung spätestens seit der Etablierung der ¿evolutionären Ästhetik¿ als wissenschaftliche Disziplin wahr geworden.Naturalistische Erklärungen laufen den traditionell geisteswissenschaftlichen und philosophischen Ansätzen in ihrer Vielheit aktuell den Rang ab. Nach der evolutionären Ethik und der evolutionären Erkenntnistheorie ist die neueste empirische Forschung daran interessiert, die Ästhetik für sich zu gewinnen.
