Hambacher for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Mobile District) and the National Park Service (Mid-Atlantic Region). Published in October 1982 by the Museum at Michigan State University, it was produced in partial fulfillment of federal Contract No. C-07026 to mitigate the cultural destruction caused by the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, one of the largest public works projects in American history, authorized by Congress in 1946 and completed in 1984. The comprehensive 297-page monograph includes technical illustrations, architectural schematics, artifact inventories, and on-site photographs, with Dr. Charles E. Cleland and Dr. William A. Lovis of Michigan State University serving as Principal Investigators. This report constitutes a core baseline reference for the cultural resources of the Tombigbee River Multi-Resource District, documenting the historic settlement patterns and agricultural heritage of the Columbus Lake region before inundation. Original technical salvage archaeology reports of this era had no commercial print runs, with copies distributed strictly to federal agencies and institutional archives. …
