Couverture rigide. Condizione: Comme neuf. Edition originale. Paris 2015. 2 Volumes/2 -- Reliure éditeur cartonnée illustrée. Format in-8°( 26,5 x 18,5 cm ). ------ XVI-524 & 556 pages. 44 illustrations. Very rare collection of 9 articles in original first edition pertaining to the greatest 19th c. falsification in the history of science (astronomy). The world famous French mathematician Michel Chasles submitted false letters at the Academy which were to proof that the French scientist Pascal formulated Newton's law on the motion of celestial bodies 20 years earlier than Newton. When the fraud was finally disproofed they found at Chasles' house e.g. letters from Alexander the Great to Aristotle.all written in funny old French (sic). It remains inexplicable how one of the greatest mathematicians of the 19th c. could be taken in by this forger Vrain-Lucas who during a period of 8 years sold over 27.000 letters to Chasles.( P.S. Since I wrote this commentary we have had Corona and the Climate hoax).…
