This book describes the state of the art following several processes of design, development and realisation regarding true structural glass. The processes described include several ways of using glass panels in spatial structures, ranging from non-loadbearing glass panels in conventional skylights around space frames, via structurally sealed glass panels with an additional stabilizing function, to structurally loadbearing glass panels. Here metal elements are used only as connection and as additional elements for the overall stability. The goal of this quest for glass space structures with loadbearing glass plates, ultimately in the form of horizontal roof structures. The point of view of the author is that of a product architect, which combines the professions of architect, structural engineer and industrial designer on the one hand, and of a specialist producer on the other. The aim of this book is to familiarize architects with these new developments, to evoke discussions and to boost further developments with equal openness of information upgrading the state of art. Hopefully the book has its modest positive influence on the quality of architecture. Product Development in Glass Structures is to be regarded as a second volume to Mick Eekhout?s dissertation Architecture in Space Structures (Uitgeverij 010 Publishers, Rotterdam 1989). Completing what is to be a trilogy will be Structural Design in Space Frames, to be published in 1991., Ill. bn: illustrated throughout, Ill. colori: 4 colour illustrations, Peso: 315 gr.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Type: Book The mission of the publication "Delft Science in Design 2" is to promote and advance the exchange of lessons learned on design between university and industry. Also, it aims to amplify the visibility of the results of academic effort in design at Delft University. The questions 'What is design?', 'What is engineering?', 'What is science?' can be fiercely debated. Between the extremes of artistic design and pure science, the transitions are like in fluid: they are smooth and gradual. An approach focusing on how the university deals with knowledge may provide a better entry to the debate. The mutual understanding between scientists from different disciplines may get lost. It is one of the two major objectives of the Delft Science in Design congress to offer a kaleidoscope of the activities of the various faculties to all university colleagues and students, so that staff and students can be made aware of activities in other laboratories, and have the opportunity to be informed on details. Being informed is the first step to understanding. 286pp.

He presents in himself an unusual combination of a creative architect, shrewd structural engineer, progressive industrial designer and civil engineering contractor. One of the aims of this book is to review the results of his initial pioneer period in which he designed, developed and realised different types of space frames, domes, tents, tensegrities and glazed roof structures. Another aim is to illustrate the specialisation in space structures with a more basic design philosophy on the interaction of architecture and space structures. Reading the book will reveal that the author possesses visible enthusiasm, scientific curiosity and readiness to experiment. It is a book which many architects and structural engineers will find really refreshingly different and directly useful in their own work., Ill. bn: illustrated throughout, Ill. colori: 4 colour illustrations, Peso: 610 gr.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. The Department of Building Technology at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft is studying and developing cardboard as a potential building material on a broad, systematic and, where possible, comprehensive basis. The guiding research question is: "How can cardboard be used in both architectural and structural terms as a fully fledged building material, making use of the material-specific properties?" An exploratory phase from 2003 to 2005 - including an outdoor pilot structure (multi-shed), a pilot pavilion accommodating; an exhibition, workshops on resistance to fire and to damp, a first patent (KCPK), the design of an interior wall (Besin) and the publication of this book - was concluded by an international symposium attended by both the paper industry and the building industry. This publication comprises the report on that symposium.
