The memoir of the Dayang Muda (18841954) née Gladys Milton Palmer, who married to Bertram Willes Dayrell Brookefrom the family of theWhite Rajahs who ruled Sarawak on Borneo. Dayang Muda was a colourful character who interacted with the high society in Europe and got involved in the movie industry by forming and directing the Big Four Famous Productions company in 1922. She converted to Islam at the Paris Mosque February 1932 (having previously been a Protestant, Christian Scientist and Roman Catholic). The book is inscribed to Baron Jean de Montegnac-Veöreös (1895?; or Jean-Médée; Hans; János de Montegnac-Vörös) the Hungarian-born Papal chamberlain, art historian and expert on Islamic art just a few months after her conversion, in Paris on May 17, 1932, singed as Khair-ul-nessá Sarawak. With 3 original, vintage, black and white photographs of her, wearing the same Oriental garment that is on the dust jacket and on the frontispiece of the book. Two by Studio Georges Marant (Paris) and one by Rose Kardos (Paris). Size: ca. 175 × 225 mm. . Dust jacket slightly chipped at extremities, otherwise in fine condition.
