Condizione: Good. - Octavo, pictorial blue cloth titled in gilt with an illustration in black on the front cover. The binding is rubbed at the extremities with a small white stain to each cover. The spine is faded. xviii & 518 plus 2-page publisher's catalog. Black-and-white plates, including a frontispiece with tissue guard and numerous full-page & textual illustrations in black & white. There is a previous owner's name & date in pencil on the front endpaper. There are a very few pencil markings in the text with occasional soiling. The page edges are slightly darkened. Good. Sketches written by Colonel John Flavel Mines for newspaper publication.

The "sketches" from A tour around New York first appeared in the New York evening post; those from My summer acre appeared in the New York commercial advertiser.

Gift inscription from John Elton Wayland to his "Ma-in-Law" Mary E. Scovill. John Elton Wayland, aka "Idas," born in Waterbury, Conn., 1860. Graduated at Yale, 1883, and at the Columbia Law School, 1895. He was admitted to the New York bar the same year, and has since practiced in that city. His poem 'An Epilogue at Wallack's' appeared in the 'Yale Courant' for 1882, and in W. Winter's 'John Gilbert,' published by the Dunlap Society, 1890.
