Since ancient times, food has been an important means of communication between human beings and the divine. Ritual offerings reflected the bounty of nature, or of the harvest were first made to the Kami (local deities), or to the Buddha. After the traditional rites were finished, these food offerings were taken and used as ingredients in the worshipers feast. Thus, the food for the gods was passed on to man, strengthening the bonds between them.
