Couverture rigide. Condizione: Bon. L'ouvrage de Jacques Monicat, intitulé Les Grandes Compagnies en Velay (1358-1392), est une étude historique de référence publiée pour la première fois en 1928. Il s'inscrit dans le cadre plus large de l'histoire du Velay pendant la guerre de Cent Ans. Le livre explore une période sombre pour…la région du Velay (actuelle Haute-Loire). Après la bataille de Poitiers (1356) et le traité de Brétigny, des bandes de mercenaires licenciés, appelées "Grandes Compagnies" ou "Routiers", ravagent les campagnes françaises. Faute de solde, ces soldats de métier vivent sur le pays par le pillage, la rançon et l'occupation de places fortes. Jacques Monicat détaille la résistance et les souffrances de la province face à ces envahisseurs : • Les incursions : L'auteur retrace les mouvements des capitaines de compagnies célèbres comme Seguin de Badefol ou Robert Knolles, qui ont menacé Le Puy et ses environs. • Le système de défense : Il analyse comment les populations locales, l'évêque du Puy et la noblesse (notamment les Polignac) se sont organisés pour fortifier les bourgs et les églises. • L'aspect financier : Une grande partie de l'étude repose sur les archives locales pour montrer le coût exorbitant des "pattis" (rançons versées aux compagnies pour qu'elles épargnent une zone ou la quittent). C'est l'une des rares monographies régionales qui traite de manière exhaustive de l'impact social et économique des Grandes Compagnies. Pour les généalogistes ou les passionnés de l'histoire de la Haute-Loire, c'est une mine d'informations sur les fortifications des villages et l'état de la société rurale au XIVe siècle. Publié par la librairie ancienne Honoré Champion en 1928. Reliure artisanale demi tissus moderne avec un dos lisse et des plats marbrés en très bon état . La couverture d' origine a été conservée. L' intérieur en bon état, format 25,5x17,5x2,5 cm , 285 pages.
