Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Fine. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. First American trade edition. Set with the original soft-cover pictorial wrappers. Small folio. Volume I, 100 plates in 5 parts with original folders, and each folder with a dust jacket. Volume 2, 100 plates but only Part I in a folder with a dust jacket; all the o…ther parts are included but are undifferentiated by separation of parts into folders. The American issue did not sell well and Doubleday withdrew from the project which then was picked up and finished by Doran. Most likely in an attempt to save money, Doran sold the book in two differing formats: (1) most often bound up in two hardback volumes and (2) more rarely, as in this copy, with parts 2, 3, 4, and 5 lacking folders and dust wrappers. Copies of the original issues in parts are uncommon, especially in this condition. The folders and dust wrappers as well as all the text and prints (with the exception of part II, print number LXI which has a small closed tear in the margin which extends 1 inch into the image) are remarkably bright, crisp, and clean. In two publishers slipcases with a few stains and small tears at the extremities. Bone (1876-1953)was Britain's first official war artist. Commissioned as an honorary Second Lieutenant, he arrived in France during the Battle of the Somme, serving with the Allied forces on the Western Front and also with the Royal Navy for a time. He produced many drawings of the war.
