Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Near Fine. First edition. Edited by John Montague. Octavo. 400pp. Dark green cloth spine stamped in gilt. Very good with some soiling to the top of the text block and discoloration on the pastedown from the binder's glue, which is typical for this title, in near fine lightly soiled dust jacket with small rub spot on the front edge. Advance Review Copy with publisher's slip. The ink owner name of Irish scholar and friend of Montague's, Colin L. McElvie, on the first page. McElvie wrote a letter to the *Irish Times* to defended Montague's editing after reading its unfavorable review of this book. Laid in is an Autograph Letter Signed by Montague on University College, Cork letterhead, dated May 3 1976, in which he thanks McElvie for his published letter and discussed other reviews of his books. Also laid in are various newspaper clipping about this book, an anthology of Irish verse which features a 19-page essay ("In the Irish Grain") by Montague, four poems by Seamus Heaney and numerous contributions of ancient and modern poets, including Jonathan Swift, Owen Roe O'Sullivan, Thomas Moore, W. B. Yeats, James Stephens, Padraic Colum, Samuel Beckett, Derek Mahon, Eavan Boland, and others. An interesting association copy.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine condition. First edition: Limited to 750. London: The Nonesuch Press, 1931. 6 vols, complete. Near Fine unworn condition (see photos). Appears unread. Bright, clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. Inner hinges are perfect. Uniformly bound in the original attractive marbled boards with green cloth spines stamped in shiny gold. Spines are still a pleasing green -- only very slightly sun-faded (see photo) -- much less than usual for this set which is often seen with spines sunned to an ugly brown. Each volume has long been protected by a homemade clear plastic dust jacket -- all of which have done their job well resulting in NO fraying and almost NO rubbing. PLEASE NOTE: Vertical white lines in the photos are light reflected from the clear plastic dust jackets, NOTon the books themselves. There are faint shadows at the corners of the front free endpapers from tape adhesive offset (minor -- see photo). Otherwise all pages are fresh, crisp and unmarked -- uncut and unopened, apparently never read. NO foxing. NO owner's name or bookplate. Each volume measures 6.75" wide by 10.25" tall. This is number 457 of 750 standard sets (another 50 having been being printed on Van Gelder paper). Volumes I-II were published in 1931; Volumes III-VI in 1932. cxxxvi, 460pp; [iv], 532pp; [iv], 595pp; [iv], 603pp; [iv], 545pp; [iv], 594pp. Edited, and with notes by Montague Summers. Top gilt edges are dusty. Dreyfus 80: "The first complete and critical edition of Dryden's plays, published to celebrate the tercentenary of his birth." [A HISTORY OF THE NONESUCH PRESS]. d' A. Smith B25 [Montague Summers bibliography]. "Francis [Meynell] revised the format, dropping the long esses, making an easier narrower page." -- Richard Garnett [THE PRIVATE LIBRARY, Winter 1996]. Shipping for this large, heavy 6 vol. set is most economical by MEDIA MAIL (you only pay our standard charge for 1 volume; and we ship the other 5 vols at no extra cost). Priority and International shipment are also available, but ONLY by special arrangement, and at significantly greater expense. First edition: Limited to 750. Hardcover.
