Mordecai Gerstein (1935 - 2019) was an American artist, writer, and film director, best known for illustrating and writing more than 40 children's and YA books. He became a Caldecott winner (2004) for The Man Who Walked Between the Towers (2003), about French aerialist, Philippe Petit, which became a movie in 2005 starring Jake Gyllenhaal. The Old Country is a beautifully crafted original fairytale about shape-changing by the author. Gerstein did the evocative dust jacket cover art of a fox-over-girl in silhouette. But, frustratingly, he didn't illustrate the rest of his marvellously evocative tale! EXCEPTIONAL COPY in all respects! No markings by previous owners or remainder. Not ex library.
