Paperback. Condizione: new. Heck, Don; Morisi, Pete; Discount, Bill (illustratore). Paperback. Duke Douglas, recruited by Army Intelligence in 1942 while in his last year of medical school, proved to be just the sort of deep cover agent America needed to face the insidious Soviet threat of the mid-1950s. Reading Duke's adventures today the influence of Ian Fleming's super spy seem obvious but keep in mind that in late-1953, when Duke Douglas debuted, only Casino Royale was in print, there had been no films, and very few people had ever heard of James Bond. Clearly, the creative team at Comic Media were at least a heartbeat or two ahead of the game. Duke first appeared on the cover of Comic Media's Danger #6, cover dated November 1953. Only one of his stories credits a writer, Ken Fitch. Illustrations are provided by Don Heck, Pete Morisi, and Bill Discount. Boardman Books' "character" collections bring together the adventures of rather obscure golden ago comic book characters in single volumes. The point of the volumes is not to focus on a particular artist but to rediscover a character generally lost to comics fandom. Stories are reproduced from vintage originals from the collection of the publisher (and other sources) with only rudimentary cleaning to make the art more legible and therefore suffer all the drawbacks that implies. If you are looking for an exposition, or diatribe, on this artist or that, these books are not the place to find it. However, if you wish thrilling adventures as only comic books can convey, these might be the publications for you. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardback. Condizione: New. Gene Colan, Russ Heath, Joe Maneely, Dave Berg, Jay Scott Pike, Mike Sekowsky, Vern Henkel, Allen Bellman, Pete Morisi, Norman Steinberg (illustratore). Hard Cover. Fantagraphics 2025. Book condition: New. Full Colour illustrations. Continuing Fantagraphics' project to reprint Marvel Comics' 1950s genre titles, this volume compiles the first of what became the industry's largest line of war books. Produced by veterans of WWII, the eight issues here feature future mainstream comics stalwarts such as Gene Colan, Russ Heath, Joe Maneely, and more. Forged in the crucible of the Korean War, and produced by veterans of the Second World War, this volume's eight issues present the brutality and grimness of armed combat by some of Atlas' most notable war artists and future comics stars including Gene Colan, Russ Heath, Joe Maneely, Dave Berg, Jay Scott Pike, Mike Sekowsky, Vern Henkel, Allen Bellman, Pete Morisi and Norman Steinberg. Propaganda abounds from the very first story, published in War Comics #1 in September 1950: "Peril in Korea," a primer explaining why the US joined the conflict. Other highlights include Colan's "The Chips are Down" and "Victory," Heath's "Alone" and "No Survivors," Maneely's "Stormy Weather," Henkel's "Total Destruction," and Berg's "The Infantry's War." Originally a trial spun off from the publisher's "Men's Adventure" publications, in the nine years to follow Atlas went on to produce 533 comic book issues with war content, across 34 different titles. War Comics is where it all began: unseen in decades, scanned from the original books, restored and packaged as one large, beautiful hardcover volume. 180 pages. Size: 9" x 12" (226mm x 297mm). ISBN: 9781683969686. (2.5 ATLASLIB4).
