This is a mimeographed draft that was sent to Stephen Jay Gould, who neatly pencilled "File under David Raup" at top of cover; "Change card" and "Should be R8" is also written in hurried script on the cover, likely also by Dr. Gould, as the original call number assigned was wrong and crossed out. Draft consists of [289] leaves in several paginations based on chapter numbers; while p. "VI-45" is not included, there are two slightly different pages designated as VI-46, which have captions for Figures VI-6 through VI-9 -- the captions for Figures VI-1 through VI-5 appear on subsequent leaves; the first and last leaves have wear.
