Of particular interest is a plea for reconciliation with the South in the aftermath of the Civil War, account of two instances of African-American troops, including the "Colored Cavalry", on steamboats mutinying over being transported back South, a description of a visit to Narragansett, opening of the first Hebrew school in New York City, and the dedication of the monument.
