Clean pages with noticeable tanning and foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Ownership plate stuck to front pastedown. Brown marbled patterned pastedowns, free endpapers and textblock edges. Hinges are slightly cracked with exposed netting. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Moderate tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Minor peeling and splits to leather elements. Gilt lettering is darkened. Visible wear marks to boards.

Volumes 3 & 4 are in less nice condition due to the top 1.5 inch of leather spine is pulled away from binding and volume 4 is missing the "Rabelais" paste on that the other 3 volumes have. A very rare example of the 4 volume set, not perfect but solid, attractive and readable.
