The opposite of vulnerability, it encompasses qualities that are both relational and innately enforced. In this unique book Clara Mucci investigates how resilience can be fostered to create stronger individuals and societies. Mucci explores human responses to intergenerational trauma and identifies the key principles that can foster resilience and healing. She looks not only through the prism of attachment theory and developmental neuroscience but also explores the power of art, memoir and other frameworks, showing that acts of compassion and forgiveness contribute to building and reinforcing resilience and solidarity.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Resilience stands at the limits of what it means to be human. The opposite of vulnerability, it defines qualities that are both relational and innately enforced. Clara Mucci explores contemporary therapeutic approaches to intergenerational trauma, focusing on the key principles that foster resilience and healing. Resilience and Survival: Understanding and Healing Intergenerational Trauma presents a unique combination of resilience theory with attachment, psychoanalysis, and developmental neuroscience, with a mindbodybrain developmental approach to therapy. It shows how resilience can be reinforced and structured to create stronger individuals and societies, vis-a-vis increasing traumatic and stressful life circumstances. The author investigates several human practices, processes, and features that aid our capacity to resist, combat, adapt to or counter extreme traumatisation. These features and capabilities come into play at the interface between vulnerability and resilience, leading to a deeper understanding of the mechanism of resilience itself. Each chapter illustrates the components necessary to achieve resilience: attachment, connectedness, memory, testimony, education, and the development and practice of artistic and creative activities. The book also explores the positive effects of moral commitment, empathy, and altruism, and psychodynamic intergenerational therapy on trauma, showing that acts and feelings of compassion and forgiveness, and an appreciation for and use of higher order symbolic structures, such as art and creativity, together contribute to building and reinforcing resilience and social solidarity. AUTHOR: Clara Mucci, PhD, teaches Clinical Psychology at the University of Chieti in Italy. Previously a professor of Shakespearean studies, she is now a psychoanalyst in private practice. She is the author of several books on Shakespeare and psychoanalysis, on trauma, the Holocaust and personality disorders. She is the author of Beyond Individual and Collective Trauma and Borderline Bodies. Resilience stands at the limits of what it means to be human. The opposite of vulnerability, it defines qualities that are both relational and innately enforced. Clara Mucci explores contemporary therapeutic approaches to intergenerational trauma, focusing on the key principles that foster resilience and healing.
