Original parchment-backed red paper boards, black lettering and decoration. Free endpapers partly browned. Small piece chipped from fore-edge of p.71; short tear to p.93, also at fore-edge, with small section of paper folded over. Corners soft; paper at edges of boards partly rubbed away showing plain boards underneath. Two discreet early ink ownership names and dates to prelims.; one of these names illegible, the other W.T. (or N.T.?) Roden perhaps a relation of the Colonel W.S. Roden cited on page 116. Parchment a little soiled & discoloured, some rubbing around edges of covers, and a short external split to parchment at either side of head of spine but covers perfectly tight and sound.
