Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Scientific Essay from the year 2020 in the subject Didactics - Theology, Religion Pedagogy, grade: 1.0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: This elaboration draws out what the author refers to as the 'Spirit of Fratelli Tutti' f…rom the recent encyclical by Pope Francis entitled Fratelli Tutti. He provides a socio-religious or theological perspective on the new encyclical. Based on three social virtues, fraternity, solidarity and social friendship, the encyclical is a call to humanity to unite and to build a brave new world order after the Covid-19 pandemic. He has limited himself to examining why the encyclical has been well-received, how Covid-19 calls us to a new way of being human in which humanity is being challenged not to return to business as usual in the way we deal with each other; how natural evil, such as a pandemic, cannot thwart the plan of the creator; how the new encyclical, Fratelli Tutti factors into a new World Order and ending with five lessons he was able to cull from Fratelli Tutti.Written, as the Pope says, when 'the Covid-19 pandemic unexpectedly erupted, exposing our false securities' (Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti 2020: par 7), he uses that as a jumping off point to challenge the age-old theologoumenon of the impassibility of God. He argues that God in fact suffers as he has been suffering during the Covid-19 pandemic, but he is not overwhelmed by suffering. Fratelli Tutti calls for a new way of relating to each other as our brothers' and sisters' keepers, as we head towards Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Theology - Practical Theology, grade: 1.0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: This paper was presented to the St Ignatius Christian Life Community [CLC], one of the thousands of C…LC cell-groups in all five continents. The St Ignatius CLC is the oldest such group in Zambia. The current members of the group go back over 30 years of belonging to the community. While preparing to deliver this paper via Zoom on 29 November 2020, it occured to me that for members of Christian Life Community who wish to understand 'The Spirit of Fratelli Tutti,' they need not look further than the ethos and spirituality of CLC. I challenged members of CLC to ask themselves: how can CLC help us to live out the Spirit of Fratelli Tutti I reminded the participants that the number of Papal Encyclicals since the modern era is staggering. From the papacy of Pope Benedict XIV (1740-1758), to the papacy of Pope Francis, it is estimated that 299 encyclicals have been churned in the modern era but it looks like most of them ended on shelves in presbyteries around the world and did not reach the ordinary Christian in the pew. There may have been many reasons for that such as the pyramidal structure of the Church which saw the Church through the lens of the clergy. I feared that this may be the way of Fratelli Tutti if we did not do anything about it. That is why this Zoom conference was important and in many ways. It was something of a first - it was organised by lay people and delivered by a lay person. I challenged participants to go back to their families, neighbourhoods, parishes, Small Christian Communities, country, continent and even planet to ask, 'What does Fratelli Tutti mean for my family, neighbourhood, parish, Small Christian Community, country, continent and even planet '.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Document from the year 2020 in the subject Theology - Practical Theology, grade: 1,0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: This satirical article examines the case of the fictitious suspension of a Catholic priest, John Mwanyenga… of Kabuchende parish in Ulufyengo archdiocese in the fictional country of Zambezia. Its main characters are all fictitious and any similarity to actual historical persons and places are purely coincidental designed to explore in depth the use of hard power in the Catholic Church. The aim of the article is to shine a spotlight on a too often occurrence in the Catholic Church in the relationship between priests and bishop which involves a miscarriage of justice. This issue is closely linked with the secretive and archaic method of appointing Catholic bishops destined to lead Catholic dioceses.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Theology - Historic Theology, Ecclesiastical History, grade: 1.0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: Like the recent searingly honest McCarrick-Report, this paper is a no-holds b…arred analysis of the sexual abuse scandal generated by the high-profile former Cardinal Archbishop of Washington, Theodore McCarrick. This paper argues that the McCarrick-Report is a sign of a dysfunctional system held together by clericalism, patriarchy, secrecy, and sovereignty. Sexual abuse in the Catholic Church will not be rooted out unless the two twin villains of clericalism and patriarchy, secrecy and sovereignty are abolished. In terms of its hierarchy, it needs to reflect the rest of society comprising male and female, straight and gay, married and celibate, young and old. This paper highlights the unprecedented nature of this report from the Secretariat of State. As John Allen says, 'In the end, it's possible the McCarrick Report may be remembered as the single most consequential step toward reform during the Francis papacy, not only because of what it reveals about this particular case, but the precedent it sets for how all future cases ought to be handled. Once the genie of transparency is out of the bottle, that is, it's going to be awfully difficult to put it back in.'It is hoped that one of the corollaries of the McCarrick Report is to lead to a change in the way bishops are appointed in the Catholic Church. They ought to be elected by their constituency to a limited or even to a lower retirement age of 65 or whichever comes first.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Polemic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Theology - Historic Theology, Ecclesiastical History, grade: 1.0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: This article examines the significance of the breaking news - at least on 11 J…anuary 2021- from the Vatican about Pope Francis modifying Canon 2301 of the Code of Canon Law to officially grant women access to the ministries of lector and acolyte. The breaking news, I argue, was not about 'Access of Women to the Ministries of Lector and Acolyte' but 'Modifying Canon 2301 of the Code of Canon Law'.This article explores why this is significant and whether ultimately it could lead to the full Monty of the ordination of women to the Catholic diaconate, presbyterate and episcopate. Although coming 62 years too late after the decision by Pope John XXIII on 25 January 1959 to renew the 1917 Code of Canon Law, the recent decision to modify the Code in this regard is a significant step in Bergoglian reforms enabling women what Sacrosanctum Concilium described as 'that fully conscious and active participation'. With the Apostolic Letter Spiritus Domini and the letter to the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Pope Francis has effectively opened the door slightly ajar for the ordination of women as deacons, priests and bishops in the Catholic Church. The modification of Canon 2301 has chipped at two mountains in the way of female ordination: male-gendered clericalism and patriarchy. In practice though, what has happened is that canonical legislation has just caught up with Sensus Fidelium in many parts of the Catholic Church where women ply their trade as lectors and acolytes or extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist on an equal footing with their women folk.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Theology - Historic Theology, Ecclesiastical History, grade: 1.0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: This article provides a theoretical and literature framework accompanying a c…urrently ongoing six-month post-doctoral research project, 'Female Catholic Ordination to the Diaconate, Priesthood and Episcopate: A Constructivist-Epistemological-Phenomenological Inquiry,' a post-doctoral research project submitted to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Kabwe, Zambia and the University of Pretoria in Pretoria, South Africa.Essentially, the article debunks the argument of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church that 'the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church's faithful'. The argument goes something like this. The priest presiding at Mass does so in persona Christi [in the person of Christ], therefore the priest must be male because Jesus was male, at least for 30-plus of his life in first century Palestine. The priest stands in for Jesus and therefore has to have a 'natural resemblance' to the earthly Jesus, and that resemblance is his maleness. Just why this male resemblance is important is not set out in black and white. Being human or Jesus' post-resurrection status in which gender or sex are irrelevant, do not cut the ontological mustard.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Polemic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Theology - Historic Theology, Ecclesiastical History, grade: 1.0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: This article aims at examining the Catholic Church's indefensible and ambivale…nt position on homosexuality vis-à-vis the Catholic priesthood. I conclude that while its teaching is clear, in my view erroneous, its practice is ambivalent due to the many gay priests among its ranks, even some would say, up to the highest level of cardinals as the recent McCarrick Report (2020) by the Vatican Secretariat of State revealed. On one level, the answer to the question whether gay men, and by extension gay women, should be admitted to the Catholic priesthood or not is a straightforward affirmative. They should. This is probably a left of centre position. It is my position. Carlo Maria Viganò calls it 'an anti-Church of heretics, corrupt men and fornicators' who include 'the Vatican Sanhedrin' or what he calls 'the deep Church' as I have mentioned below. It would argue with evidence in bucket loads that there are already gay clerics - both high and low - in the Catholic priesthood but only men, I hasten to add. I know a handful. In my erstwhile career as a Catholic seminary lecturer, I personally knew a gay priest colleague, an amiable fellow if ever there was one. There was queer talk about him wherever he had been posted but nothing concrete until at his last post he was reported to the Zambian police for sexual abuse of two teenage boys. May be if it had not been for the age of his victims, he might still be in the gay closet.
