These richly illustrated journals present scholarly yet accessible articles on twentieth century conflict, drawing from primary source mater…ial held by the museum. Topics covered include war art by C R W Nevinson, George Rodger's war photography, British propaganda, trench warfare, Palestine campaigns, and lesser known archival subjects such as film, recruitment imagery, and wartime cultural history. Each issue functions as a standalone reference while also forming part of a respected ongoing series. This set comes from the library of Nathaniel Tarn, poet and anthropologist, born Edward Michael Mendelson, with associated ephemera including a compliments slip from the Friends of the Imperial War Museum. Provenance adds an appealing scholarly connection for collectors of twentieth century history and literary figures. All four volumes are clean and solid with light handling wear. Interiors are bright with no major markings observed. A nice working set for historians, collectors, or anyone interested in museum level war studies material. Three leaves of photographs depicting various monuments erected to commemorate the revered poet and symbol of the Ukrainian nation, accompanied with a single leaf of [an unattributed] musical score, wherein, the poem has been adapted for music. Comprises of a remarkable fifty-five translations of possibly Shevchecnko's most venerated poem "Zapovit" or "Testament"; one which has been accorded a status second only to the Ukrainian national anthem. Includes translations in: Abkhaz, Azeri, Georgian, Tatar, English, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Armenian, Spanish, Estonian, Hebrew, Tatar, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Chinese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Komi, German, Ossetian, Polish, Portugese, Russian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovakian, Slovenian, Tajik, Turkmen, Udmurt, Uzbek, Hungarian, Finnish, Flemmish, French, Czech, Swedish, Japanese, et al. Exceptionally well-preserved with no flaws to the extremities, contents equally without blemish; near fine. Rare indeed. A lovely offering through-and-through.
