Por encima de todo fue un predicador radical del Evangelio, sin concesiones de ningún tipo a los que tenían en sus manos los mecanismos del poder. Para él era una evidencia indiscutible que la Buena Nueva se dirigía en primer término a los desheredados de este mundo, al «pobre pueblo», como acostumbra a decir. Para Engels y Kautsky la sublevación de los campesinos promovida por Müntzer constituye «una anticipación genial de la historia futura».
