Cover mit zwei längeren (aber sauber hinterlegten) Einrissen, sonst gut. Platte so gut wie tadellos Erstpressung. Texte in Swahili.

Aggiungi al carrello5 works in 1 volume, the second in 5 issues. A remarkable album on mainly French, but also Swiss and Belgian mushrooms, with beautiful watercolour paintings. They are still as vividly coloured as when they were first made, and depict different mushroom species from different angles. The added publications contain scientific information about mushrooms, accompanied by several colour-printed plates in the different works. They explain their taxonomy, medicinal use, how to grow them, and how to treat mushroom poisoning. The first work in the collection is a prospectus for Léon Rolland's richly illustrated Atlas des champignons de France, Suisse et Belgique and includes 4 colour-printed plates. Ad 2 is a collection of 5 issues of the first year of a French natural history periodical "L'ami du médecin" published in monthly instalments from 1909 until at least 1939 (but was likely not continued during or after the Second World War). The short articles about classifying mushrooms and describing different mushroom species are accompanied by vibrantly colour-printed plates depicting the mushrooms on the forest floor, intended to show the reader which mushrooms are edible and which are not. Ad 3 comprises of 7 extracts (Fascicules XIII, V, VI, and IX-XII) from Charles Benardin's Soixante champignons comestibles (published in the first half of the 20th century). Benardin (1860-1939) was a French magistrate and political activist from the Vosges region in the Northeast of France. While he had nothing to do with mushrooms or natural history in his professional (political) career, he hailed from the Vosges department where studying, foresting for, and cooking with mushrooms is considered a time-honoured tradition and pastime. Thus, Benardin writing and publishing a work about sixty edible mushrooms is not as surprising as first thought. This is followed by the set of 8 leaves (interleaved with translucent, coated protective paper) showing numerous detailed watercolour drawings of mushrooms. Ad 5 is a manuscript extract based on volume 15 (concerning mushrooms) of the Bibliothèque scientifique internationale (1873-1919), a popular science collection of 123 volumes published under direction of Émile Alglave (1842-1928). The original 15th volume was published in 1875, while the present manuscript is itself dated or refers to a possible later edition - dated 1882.With an oval purple stamp of "Libraire Poulain-Rocher" (in Sens, France) on the verso of plate 49 in ad 1. The contents of ad 1 are split between the first (title-) page at the start of the work and the plates bound in after ad 3. The marbled paper on the boards has been rubbed along the foot edge. The title-page of ad 1 shows some minor staining, the leaves of ad 3 are somewhat browned. Otherwise in very good condition.l Ad 3: cf. WorldCat 458484525 (1 copy). Contemporary half white goat leather, marbled paper sides, end papers with a printed marbled design. Ad 2 with the original blue printed paper wrappers bound in. Ad 1 with 4 colour-printed plates designed by A. Bessin and engraved by Lassus, ad 2 with 10 colour-printed plates (2 per issue) and some black and white illustrations in the text. Pages: [2] + 4 plates after ad 3; [2], "17-64"[= 48] & "81-112" [= 32] + [16 (wrappers)], [2]; [28]; [8, interleaved with translucent paper]; [12], [2 blank], [1], [1 blank], [1], [1 blank], [4 blank] pp. Comprising: (1) ROLLAND, Léon. Prospectus [for the] Atlas des champignons de France, Suisse et Belgique.Paris, Paul Klincksieck, 1908.(2) [PERIODICAL]. L'ami du Médécin.Paris, March, April, May, July, and August 1909.(3) [BENARDIN, Ch.]. Les champignons. [Extrait de Soixante champignons comestibles, Fascicules V-VI and IX-XIII]. Aggiungi al carrelloSmall folio. Contemporary half calf over patterned boards, colour illustrated endpapers, all edges blue-green, held in a recent bespoke mushroom cloth Solander box, gilt lettered to the spine. 122 charming and delicately hand drawn and coloured illustrations of mushrooms, each hand numbered to the corner, plus another in the same hand loosely inserted, some, but by no means all, of the illustrations captioned in pencil. Spine very worn with losses, the joints cracked and the boards still held by the strings. No name is attached to the volume or the illustrations but whoever compiled the album clearly demonstrates their affinity with the subject and a great deal of artistic skill and, with no way of knowing if the illustrations were intended to be published, one must therefore assume the illustrations were done by a gifted amateur. It is not dated but the appearance of the binding and the very distinctive endpapers suggest that it is either very late 18th or early 19th century.

Four brush & black ink drawings in the text. 21 folding leaves. 8vo (237 x 165 mm.), orig. decorated semi-stiff wrappers, manuscript title on label on upper cover, new stitching. [Japan]: on final leaf (in trans.): "Copied May 1814 by Toba." An attractive manuscript copy of the first Japanese text on shiitake cultivation, written in 1796; it has remained unpublished. The beginning of our manuscript is entitled "Kyoshin roku" ["Amazing Shiitake Mushroom Knowledge"]. This is followed by "Onkosai mitsuki" ["Sato's Tips on Honey Production"] and "Satsuma imo kono sho narabini tsukuri yo no den" ["On the Health Benefits & Cultivation of Sweet Potatoes"]. The illustrations depict how to dry the mushrooms, along with a wooden beehive box and a sharp utensil to scrape the honey. Sato (1762-1848), was a leading honzo scholar and writer on agricultural matters. He advised a number of fiefdoms throughout Japan on modern agricultural techniques. Fine copy. A bit of worming on outer lower corner of first few leaves, not touching text.

39 folding leaves, using pre-printed paper. 8vo (260 x 183 mm.), orig. patterned blue wrappers, new stitching. [Japan]: Preface dated 1791 but this is a later copy, probably early Meiji. A fine manuscript copy of the unpublished work by the doctor and botanist Senshun So (1758-1834), on the varieties of mushrooms found throughout Japan. So devotes much of the text to the medicinal uses mushrooms have. At the end, So discusses how to identify poisonous mushrooms and their antidotes. So was responsible for the Seikei zusetsu [An Illustrated Book of Agricultural Things], the great agricultural and botanical work, issued in the early years of the 19th century. It is an encyclopedic survey of all the agricultural products and practices of Japan. Fine copy. NIJL lists only eight manuscript copies of this text.

Aggiungi al carrelloA collection of original samples of 23 varieties of mushroom, mounted on paper leaves or bifolia and dried, with manuscript notes providing information about the samples and with an occasional pencil drawing. Most give the name of the mushroom (in Latin or French) and the date and/or place where it was collected. Most were collected in or around Paris or within a few hours travel of Paris. The earliest two, both dated 19 October 1862, give much more detailed information written on a pre-printed (lithographed?) form in script lettering. On the front paste-down is a letterpress label with name and address, "F. Bertillon|3, Rue d'Achères|Maison-Laffitte", the name repeated in a similar label on the front board. This may be François Bertillon (b. 1889), the grandson of the Paris mycologist Louis-Adolphe Bertillon (1821-1883), whose family had a residence at Maison-Laffitte, outside Paris. Louis-Adolphe was the father and François the nephew of the anthropologist Alphonse Bertillon. The samples collected in 1862 and 1869, particularly those of 1862 with the data methodically and scientifically noted on a pre-printed form, were probably described by Louis-Adolphe. François probably found his late grandfather's samples and notes and began collecting himself around 1911, when he would have been 22 years old.As is almost inevitable with samples like these, some parts of the samples have been lost or have come loose from the paper. Some were apparently mounted before they were completely dry and have stained the paper around the samples. But some dried sample survives for all 23 varieties. The portfolio shows some abrasions and some damage from former damp. Loosely inserted in a contemporary half green cloth portfolio with blind-blocked decorations, Gustav chemical-marbled sides (black on green). A mushroom herbarium comprising samples of 23 varieties of mushroom, each mounted on a 4to leaf or the inside of a folded folio leaf and dried, with manuscript notes and an occasional pencil drawing, the two earliest mounted and written on a pre-printed form. Pages: [26] ll., the 2 folio ll. folded in half. 4to & folded folio leaves in a 4to portfolio (23 x 18 cm).
