Worldcat records an earlier Arabic publication celebrating bilateral relations dated 2008. Relations were formed soon after Kazakh independence in 1992. Kazakhstan opened its Consulate General in Dubai in 1997, and Embassies followed in Astana (2005) and Abu Dhabi (2006). During the 2010s the UAE became Kazakhstan's leading economic and trade partner in the Arab world. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this increasingly important relationship, the Kazakh Foreign Affairs Ministry charged its Embassy to prepare this work, which was issued in connection with a related Symposium. Its lead author was Ambassador Askar Mussinov (1961-2024, in post during 2006-13). Mussinov was previously a military translator in Libya, Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (twice) and Egypt, and held senior Ministry posts. The other authors were Counsellors Madiyar Menilbekov who became Ambassador to the UAE then to Saudi Arabia in 2024, and Ruslan Kospanov who became Consul General in Jeddah. The texts open with top level statements by the Presidents (Nursultan Nazarbayev and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan) and Foreign Affairs Ministers (Yerzhan Kazykhanov and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan) emphasising shared values and cooperation. The description of developing ties includes photos of leaders, meetings and events, tributes to Sheikh Zayed, and statements by the Kazakh Speaker, Akim of South Kazakhstan Province, the Executive Director of Aldar Properties, the First Deputy Chair of the Abu Dhabi Chamber Commerce and Industry and Co-Chair of the Kazakh-UAE Business Council, and the Director General of the UAE Human Rights Agency. Relevant letters and documents dating back to 1992 are also reproduced. Details follow on security and foreign affairs, and trade and economics. On the former, Kazakhstan acknowledges UAE's participation in two of its initiatives: the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) launched in 1992 to address peace and security in Asia, and the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions formed and hosted in Astana after 9/11 to promote cooperation in social, cultural, and religious affairs. Economic initiatives include the Inter Jurisdictional Commission (2004), Action Plan for major construction and heavy industries (2006), and numerous subsequent treaties. Reference is made to Abu Dhabi Plaza in Astana, which would house Kazakhstan's tallest building upon completion in 2019.
