Roman ve hikayelerde ada vasitasiyla saglanan mekan degisiklikleri, eserin ritmine tesir eder, olay orgusundeki kirilmalarda onemli rol oynar. Adanin sinirli mekani, kahramanin ruh halinin disavurulmasinda bir arac gorevi ustlenir. Kahramanlar adaya kendi duygu ve dusuncelerinin penceresinden bakarlar. Tabiati ve dis alemi icinde bulunduklari ruhi duruma gore degerlendirirler. Yazar kahramanin bilincinde gelisenleri vermek icin, adanin sinirli mekanini bir arac olarak kullanir. Adalar'a gidis tesadufi degildir. Daha cok ruhi bir ihtiyactan kaynaklanir. Bu sebeple mekan ve insan arasindaki munasebet ve etkilesim onem tasir. Roman ve hikayelerde Adalar genellikle bir ask mekani, yaz mevsimi ise bir ask mevsimi kabul edilir. Adalar kahramanlar icin bir kacis ve siginma mekani olur. Istemedigi bir durumla karsilasan kahramanlar Adalar'a gitmek yolunu secerler. Adalar'a giden kahraman, gunluk hayatinin meseleleriyle kendi arasina bir mesafe koyar. Araya giren mesafe dolayisiyla olaylari daha dogru bir gozle gorme ve degerlendirme imkani elde eder. Siirlerde Adalar tabii guzelligi, aska ve hatiralara mekan olmasi yonuyle on plana cikar. Tabii guzelligi ve genel atmosferiyle ask duygusunu harekete gecirir ve insani aska sevk eder. Ada ve yasanan ask birlesir. Sevgiliye has unsurlarla ada tabiatinin unsurlari arasinda paralellikler kurulur. Ada ve sevgili birlikteyken bir deger ve mana ifade eder. Ask bittikten sonra, bu defa askin hatiralarini tasiyan yonu dolayisiyla Adalar tekrar tekrar siginilan bir mekandir. Mensur siirlerde aska ve hatiralara mekan olmasi dolayisiyla eserlere tasinir. Once aska, ardindan bu aska dair hatiralara mekan olur. Deneme turundeki eserlerde tarih icindeki macerasi, tabii guzelligi ve sosyal hayatiyla ele alinir. Hatirat ve mektuplara samimi duygu ve dusuncelerle yansir. Adalar yazarlarin gunubirlik ziyaret ettikleri, mevsimlik veya surekli oturduklari bir mekandir. Bu eserlere samimi duygu ve dusuncelerle yansimasi sebebiyle, hatiralarin golgesinde mekan-insan munasebetinin bir baska boyutunu okuma imkani verir. Istanbul Adalari Tanzimat sonrasinda farkli devir ve nesillere mensup yazarlarimizin eserlerine zengin bir sekilde aksetmistir. Istanbul'un kendi icindeki zenginligini bu eserler sayesinde bir kez daha gorme imkani buluyoruz. Istanbul bundan sonra da kultur ve sanatimizi beslemeye devam edecek, tarihi macerasi, tabii guzelligi, zamanin sehre kattigi degerlerin getirdigi farkli cagrisimlarla edebi eserlerde yer alacaktir.
