Matrix of ecology. 4. Webs of myth. 5. Mist of mystery. 6. Conclusion. Bibliography. Index. The North eastern part of India comprising eight states is characterised by its ethnic linguistic literary and cultural diversity. The poets of the region who write in English mostly hail from multifarious ethnic groups. Their poetry is rich in dilating the aspects of the ecology myths rituals mysteries mysterious faiths and demographic traits. The region as an anthropological museum with its citizens and denizens having a deep sense of socio cultural alienation from the mainstream of Indian culture has developed a stern desire of belongingness to the best of it. As such it is interesting to see what the bards of the Northeast have produced in their poetry. Though meager in quantity the poetry of this region voices the major values of contemporary living conditions. The poetry of the famous poets of the region has been discussed in brief. The works of the major poets like Temsula Ao Robin Ngangom Kynpham S. Norgkynrih Mamang Dai Lakshahira Das Bhupati Das Dayananda Pathak R.K. Madhubir Desmond L. Kharmawphlang and Bhaskar Roy Barman present the lucid verve of their art. The work is an honest pioneering attempt of the authors to present a firsthand criticism of the poetry of the first generation writers of the region. 134 pp.

Dalit literature emerged as a result of the manipulative character of the Indian caste system and is marked by the assertion of Dalits, subalterns and the rest lower strata of Indian caste-class-religion ridden society. The Dalits' deplorable situation has resulted in their subjugation and dehumanisation, culminating in cultural silence. After their awakening, they began to protest against the discrimination and injustices levelled against them by projecting their voices through poetry, plays, fictions and autobiographies, challenging the status quo. In a period when human rights issues are receiving more attention, literary depictions of such voices have gained new significance and Dalit writing is getting global reception as protest literature. This anthology enitled Dalit Writings: Resistance, Identity and Equity contents 24 chapters which aim to address different issues raised by Dalit literature and will explore the distinct versions of Dalit consciousness through reviewing of the representation of the caste questions in the celebrated literary texts.
