Soft cover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. This 1968 Dover edition is an unabridged and unaltered republication of the second edition published by Harper & Brothers in 1923. The colored plates are reproduced in black and white. Title originally published in 1907. Natalie Curtis Burlin (1975-1921), an ethno-musicologist, studied and recorded the "Negro Folk-Songs" of the American South, and the "Songs and Tales from the Dark Continent" of Africa. (Two titles she published shortly before her death.) The songs recorded here include sheet music and lyrics. They are organized by tribes within regions. 583 p., includes index and an appendix of interlinear translations. The book is clear of any markings but shows traces of some water damage on the first 20 pages and on the top edge of the entire book. The illustrated cover is blue with a trio of colorful dancers. Corners are creased and the edge shows signs of wear. But the binding is tight. This is a heavy volume, interspersed with full page black and white photos.
