Hardcover. Condizione: Good+. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original binding. Brown cloth boards blind stamped with gilt to spine. Cloth is brittle and has chipping along edges and corners, rear exterior hinge is cracked and shows webbing on the outside. Small chip on front board near bottom left corner appears to… have been glued back in place. Previous owner's name and info stamped on the front pastedown and end page. Title page has embossed raised seal stating Lehigh County Historical Society. Because of this the book should be considered EX-LIBRARY, even though the title page embossing is the only indication. Page 23 and 69 had the corners folded over, which have been straightened out. Interior hinges are good, no interior hinge cracks noted, no torn or loose pages, binding is tight.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book brings to life the first 100 years of the Boston Marine Society through the lens of its original records, providing unprecedented insight into the origins and ongoing evolution of one of America's oldest and most cherished maritime organizations. The author has pored over th…e handwritten accounts of the Society's founders, revealing their trials and triumphs as they navigated the treacherous waters of the 18th century. From the establishment of the Fellowship Club in 1742 to the Society's incorporation in 1754, we witness the development of a close-knit community dedicated to supporting and protecting seafarers. This volume goes beyond mere historical documentation, offering a rich tapestry of personal stories and anecdotes that illuminate the human experience of those who sailed the seas in a bygone era. Through the Society's records, we gain a glimpse into the lives of mariners like Capt. John Blake, whose generous donation helped establish the Society's financial footing, and Capt. James Magee, whose daring exploits and tragic demise left an indelible mark on the organization. The book culminates with a comprehensive analysis of the Society's enduring legacy and its lasting impact on maritime safety, education, and philanthropy. This deeply researched and engaging work not only chronicles the history of the Boston Marine Society but also provides a profound appreciation for the indomitable spirit of those who braved the oceans in search of adventure and livelihood. Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book collects over 40 fascinating conversations between the author, a Quaker minister, and various individuals engaged in prominent religious roles during 17th and 18th century England. The debates range across an array of theological concepts as they were debated during the peri…od, from the nature of the sacraments to the possibility of perfection in this life. The author skillfully engages the views of Catholic priests, Presbyterian ministers, and even skeptical onlookers, exploring the implications and complexities of these ideas through dialogue. The author's perspective was shaped by an understanding of the profound nature of Quakerism as an inward, experiential expression of faith, grounded in personal revelation and the immediate guidance of the divine. These dialogues provide insights into the religious and philosophical mindset of the time, offering a fresh vantage point from which to appreciate the rich tapestry of beliefs that existed in an era of theological ferment and intellectual exploration. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
