Interfunktionen, an art journal which published 12 issues between 1968 and 1975 in Cologne, was founded in 1968 as a form of protest by artists who had no affinity with the critical lines that were redrawn at Documenta that year. The review was of considerable importance as a vehicle for propagating pro-European ideas and as a union between artists in Europe and the United States, irrespective of the predominating movements of the time. It contained both theoretical and practical contributions, with the intervention of creators who defined and illustrated their artistic strategies. Directly linked to the most prominent figures in the Düsseldorf Kunstacademie, such as Joseph Beuys, Jorg Immendorf and Sigmar Polke, it also boasted the involvement of the most spirited and reflexive artists of the times, from Vito Acconci and Marcel Broodthaers to Bruce Nauman and Dieter Roth. Interfunktionen, as its name indicates, was an inter-disciplinary publication, open to all artistic genres and with no restrictions as to media. This book is produced in collaboration with Fritz Heubach, the review's first editor, and depicts the experience of those years by means of original documents--some of them hitherto unpublished--artworks, and artists' writings.

"ANTI-ILLUSION" EXHIBITION AT WHITNEY A currently controversial movement in painting, sculpture, film and music is the basis for the exhibition. ANTI-ILLUSION: PROCEDURES / MATERIALS to open at the Whitney Museum (.) The new art trend to be shown by the Whitney exhibition has been receiving wide attention. It has been variously called Process, Anti-form, and one recent article on the subject was entitled "Impossible Art"(.) The Whitney's special evening events for the exhibition include two separate concerts by composers Philip Glass and Steve Reich, the first public projection of two new films by Michael Snow, extended time pieces by Richard Serra and Bruce Nauman and a lecture by art critic Max Kozloff. The artists in the exhibition are: Carl Andre, Michael Asher, Lynda Benglis, William Bollinger, John Duff, Rafael Ferrer, Robert Fiore, Philip Glass, Eva Hesse, Neil Jenney, Robert Lobe, Barry Le Va, Robert Morris, Bruce Nauman, Steve Reich, Robert Rohm, Robert Ryman, Richard Serra, Joel Shapiro, Michael Snow, Keith Sonnier, Richard Tuttle. (.) [2 pp.] 3. Two unique musical experiences will be offered to the public (.) when concerts by composer-performers Philip Glass and Steve Reich are presented as part of the exhibition: Anti-Illusion: Procedures / Materials . [1 pp.] ~~ 3 original press releases published in conjunction with the seminal show Anti-Illusion: Procedures / Materials at Whitney. A total of 4 pages filled with densely packed information charting a new territory in art at the moment. This exhibition curated by James Monte and Marcia Tucker was one of the early and important shows breaking new ground in terms of art and theory. Given the transitional and ephemeral nature of the artworks presented these press releases offer a vibrant sense of the project much more so than the fixed formality of the catalogue accompanying the exhibition. One sheet with hand-written notes verso.
