Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. A strange man appears at the North Pole - possibly an alien from another galaxy, disguised to look like people on earth. The stranger resembles a character associated with outer space, often referred to as a "man in black." His briefcase is full of documents and contracts. He meets with Santa to discuss a proposal about a future new delivery system that would eliminate the traditional sleigh and reindeer. It would forever change the spirit of Christmas. During the stranger's persuasive presentation, Santa has mixed feelings about giving up the old tradition of Christmas! He is worried about all the children's feelings throughout the world and how other folks would accept this radical change. Before Santa can make a decision, he must talk to his wife, Valada, and consult with his elf helpers to get their opinion on this matter. In a meeting with all assembled, Santa employs his power of argumentation before a vote is taken. He finds they share his strong convictions and foresight, making this a tough sell for the determined stranger. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. After a scrambling experience in a parade, the five boys in the tree Fort club witness an unusual sighting during the fireworks display. To investigate the sighting further, the boys meet at the tree Fort with all of their equipment. There is an old mulberry tree that stands on the outskirts of town. A tree house, which they call the Fort, was built large enough for them to use as their clubhouse. Inside the tree Fort, the boys have a panoramic view of the surrounding area. Looking out the north window, the boys can see a large meadow stretching out into the distance. Telescoping binoculars are used by the boys to study the night sky for another unusual experience. They witness the landing of a saucer-shape spacecraft in the far corner of the Meadows. Curiosity leads the boys to investigate the landing. While observing the spacecraft, the boys watch some strange animals being released. Before long, the whole town is terrorized by what the newspaper calls "the Swamp Ape." THE SERIES: Holiday Favorites is a collection of nine novellas (short stories) written by George F. Kohn. Most of the stories coincide with the holiday months of the school calendar year, each of those stories being dedicated to its special holiday. October is Halloween - The Legend of "The Hal-lo-Ween and the Motorcycle Witch" November is Thanksgiving - The First Thanksgiving December is Christmas - The Magic Christmas Tree February is Valentine's Day - A Valentine Dream March is Easter - A Big Surprise for Easter April is a celebration in St. Petersburg, Florida - The Festival of States Parade July is Independence Day - The Big Fourth The last two stories, in addition to the holiday stories, are about exploring the unknown - what if? They involve using the reader's own imagination and creativity: The Experiment - an alien mission harvests ancient implants. Neanderthal versus Cro-Magnon - different cultures and skills of two tribes are explored. INTRODUCTION to SERIES: A long time ago, before television, forests grew all around a neighborhood near the edge of the great forbidden Cypress Swamp. The people in the neighborhood all shared their lives, beliefs, and superstitions, creating an atmosphere of adventure throughout the neighborhood. In the neighborhood lived five young boys. There was an old mulberry tree that stood on the outskirts of town. Over the years, someone had built a tree house in the fork of two large limbs that spread out over the cemetery. The tree house, called the Fort, was built large enough for the boys to use as their clubhouse. Inside the tree Fort, the boys had a panoramic view of the surrounding area. Looking out the north window, the boys could see a large meadow stretching out into the distance. Through the east window, they could see far away the top of a bald cypress tree. Everyone knew that meant there was a dangerous swamp nearby. In this series of stories, some strange and incredible things happen in the area to challenge the boys' ingenuity. Utilizing their imagination and skills, the boys successfully solve one problem after another. What is real, and how much is in their imagination? This item is printed on demand. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. One day, while looking for arrowheads in a neighbor's pasture, the boys in the tree Fort club discover a dead cow. On closer observation, they discover it had been tampered with! Surveying the surrounding pastures of other neighbors, they find similar dead animals. The news spreads rapidly in the town. Large crowds of spectators begin to visit the area. Finally, as the news dies down, a new story develops! A huge, round crop circle is discovered on a nearby wheat farm. The boys decide to visit there at midnight when all the spectators are gone. While observing the crop circles, they discover many strange plants glowing in the dark! After collecting a few samples to study, the boys are interrupted by a saucer-shape disk that disappears into the lake. Unknown to the boys, the spacecraft is on a reconnaissance mission to collect and harvest genetic implants placed on the Earth thousands of years ago by another alien mission. This eighth book in the Holiday Favorites series concludes with a deeper appreciation of how delicate our children on Earth really are. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. A Big Surprise for Easter is unexpected, small-town adventure. In this story, the little old Lady (the witch) is out to try and steal every Easter basket in the town! Mysterious leaflets are found all over town, offering a reward for information that will lead her to the homes of the five little "varmints" that have been ruining her lifestyle. Reading a leaflet, the boys discover a secret code. Breaking the code becomes a matter of good detective work involving several people in the community who give the boys information they were looking for. A friend of the boys makes them a shortwave radio set to eavesdrop on broadcasting conversation of the witch. The boys discover that the local mockingbird and other native birds are being used for surveillance purposes to spy on earthlings. An alien decoding machine is made to translate into text the birds singing; the aliens could thereby decipher information from the birds. By changing the aliens' code system into a default setting, the boys confuse the witch and the alien surveillance system on the spacecraft. Once again, the boys outsmart the little old Lady! Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. One of the five boys in the tree Fort club has an incredible experience which is out of this modern-day world. While in a dream state, Lester is programmed by the Sky People of the Stargazer Fleet to travel back in time! Captain Benedict Arnold is in charge of this exploratory mission to observe the Neanderthal and the Cro-Magnon tribal members in action, because the two tribes are coexisting during an ice age (also known as a glacial period) in an area close to each other. These conditions offer a good opportunity to study differing cultures. Genetic samples are to be taken from members of each tribe, to distinguish if there is a genetic link between the two species. Members of both tribes will be evaluated on their skills and tool-making abilities, along with their ability to communicate with each other. Captain Arnold is not pleased with the results of the observation by his crew members or the recommendations of the Stargazer Fleet committee. He devises a devious plan to change the DNA molecule in favor of one tribe. If his plan is successful, it will forever change the question of natural evolution! Paperback. The Magic Christmas Tree is volume 3 of the Holiday Favorites series by George F. Kohn. This story is about a genetically cloned spruce tree with special deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) characteristics. The tree is programmed to convert sunlight into electrical energy. Thousands of years ago, this special hybrid seed was planted along with seeds from the sequoia trees by an alien spacecraft. When a special code is activated, the spruce tree lights up with thousands of multiple-color, fiber-optic lights throughout the needles on the tree - similar to a fireworks display. The tree has built-in survival techniques to allow it to withstand forest fires, floods, and severe droughts. Another special characteristic of this tree is it cannot be cut down with any man-made, metal tool! The five boys in the tree Fort club need to find the perfect Christmas tree to enter in the tree-decoration contest held in the village. The fabulous five expect to win the $50 first-place award. But first they need to find the tree, cut it down, and bring it back to their tree Fort. Then they have to decorate the tree with special decorations of their own making and finally deliver the tree in town where the contest is being judged. THE SERIES: Holiday Favorites is a collection of nine novellas (short stories) written by George F. Kohn. Most of the stories coincide with the holiday months of the school calendar year, each of those stories being dedicated to its special holiday. October is Halloween - The Legend of the "Hal-lo-Ween and the Motorcycle Witch" November is Thanksgiving - The First Thanksgiving December is Christmas - The Magic Christmas Tree February is Valentine's Day - A Valentine Dream March is Easter - A Big Surprise for Easter April is a celebration in St. Petersburg, Florida - The Festival of States Parade / A Most Unusual Experience July is Independence Day - The Big Fourth The last two stories, in addition to the holiday stories, are about exploring the unknown - what if? They involve using the reader's own imagination and creativity: The Experiment - an alien mission harvests ancient implants. Neanderthal versus Cro-Magnon - different cultures and skills of two tribes are explored.
