On "Illinois State Historical Library" letterhead, Flint chats about Civil War centennial and Civil War Round Table matters. Second is from Mort R. Lewis (1897-1991), noted film, radio and television script writer. 1p, 7¼" X 10½", Los Angeles, CA, 8 October 1960. Detailed commentary on various Civil War Round Table issues. And third is from R. Gerald McMurtry (1906-88), American historian, director of the Louis A. Warren Lincoln Library and Museum (1956-73) and author of more than 200 articles, pamphlets and books about Lincoln. 1p, 8½" X 11", Fort Wayne, IN, 22 April 1960. On "The Lincoln National Life Foundation" letterhead, he discusses a Civil War editorial cartooning contest and asks Gates to vote. A nice copy with choice autograph additions.

On "Abraham Lincoln Book Shop" letterhead, Newman notes that "My good friend, Dr. Stewart McClelland, of Lincoln Memorial University, has told me about your beautiful 'Amberglow of Abraham Lincoln and Joshua Speed,' written by Arnold Francis Gates. Would you kindly send me a copy." Boldly signed in black ink. Newman (1912-98) founded Chicago's famed Abraham Lincoln Book Shop shortly before this, and Gates twenty years later would be one of the contributors to Newman's "Lincoln for the Ages" anthology.
