Softcover. Condizione: VG+. Octavo. Softcover. Illustrated wraps. 143 pages : illustrations ; 22 cm. The original, Italian-language edition of this book was published in 2020, in a period when Simone Leigh's monumental work of art, the Brick House, was displayed on New York's High Line. The content in this new, English edition h…as not been modified; although in the meantime, the celebration of the artist in question has continued. Initially, the sculpture was portrayed only as a "magnificent female figure," an "American goddess;" now it is hailed as an icon for the 21st century. Between April 23 and November 27, 2022, this hierophany represents an "absolute, fixed point" at the 2022 Venice Biennale. While the fanfare and the (quasi-religious) fervor around Leigh's sacred icon of black femininity has only ratcheted up in the past years, this text, now presented in the lingua franca of our era, remains, to my knowledge, the first in-depth investigation of the work's manifold meanings. Eszter Salgó (MA in International Relations and Art History, PhD in Political Science) teaches at John Cabot University and Trinity College Rome Campus. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on the role of the visual in the political realm and the different manifestations of conscious and unconscious emotional experiences in public life. -- Amazon.
