Jahrhunderts auf dem Höhepunkt der Popularität Vivaldis in Frankreich dem ahnungslosen Pariser Publikum raffiniert untergeschoben wurde. Vivaldi selbst hat von dem Missbrauch seines Namens und seines musikalischen Gedankenguts nie etwas erfahren. Wie bei allen übrigen Werken Chédevilles und zahlreichen anderen Sammlungen aus der Zeit nennt der originale Titel eine Reihe von Instrumenten, die alle zur Ausführung dieser Sonaten geeignet sind: Musette, Drehleier, Flöte, Oboe und Violine. Während die ersten beiden als damals beliebte, den arkadischen Empfindsamkeiten des Aufklärungszeitalters angepasste Instrumente längst aus der Mode gekommen sind, ist heute vor allem die Flöte geeignet, den im Titel der Sammlung (Il Pastor fido" Der treue Hirte) vermerkten pastoralen Charakter der Musik zu realisieren.
