Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the history of the Duchy of Schleswig and the legal implications which arose from the succession of various rulers over the centuries. The Duchy, a fief of the Danish crown, was ruled jointly by the Danish king and the dukes of the Gottorf line of the House of Holstein-Gottorp, until the Gottorf line was dispossessed in 1713. The author details the legal basis of the Gottorf dukes' claims and the succession rights of the Danish kings. The work then examines the measures taken by King Frederick IV of Denmark in 1721 to incorporate the Gottorf portion of the Duchy into the Danish monarchy.
