"Myocardosis is a functional, protein metabolic impairment of the heart mu…scle in which dysproteinemia and paraproteinemia are often but not always seen and in which the underlying disease processes are variable. The term pure dysproteinemic myocardosis is employed here. The concept of myocardosis embodies a general pathogenetic principle which is applicable to other organs as well. It is a purely functional and reversible occurrence at the outset. Prolonged duration and repeated exacerbations of the late stages in which nonspecific myocardial changes, particularly fibrosis are seen, but which are often no longer primarily metabolic in nature, can ultimately result in the frequently seen clinical picture of hemodynamic myocardial insufficiency."
