Five volumes consisting of the whole of the 'London and Middlesex' section of the series - 'Beauties of England and Wales'. This series originally published in 25 volumes. These 5 volumes were published between 1810 and 1816 are marked oddly, but form the complete set of 'London and Middlesex. All volumes are unifomly bound in full leather with 5 raised bands, Gilt titling on 2 labels and gilt decoration to each compartment. Probably contemporary or near contemporary bindings. Each spine has some damage, some worse then others, and Part 3 has the front cover and front endpapers detached. ALL Edges Marbled. Internally each volume has marbled endpapers and 2 former owners labels to the front pastedown - just the printed names in fancy old type - Bevington Gibbins and, below, his son - Frederick J. Gibbins ( Bevington Gibbins born 1792 in Aston, Birmingham, married Rebecca Tregelles, The Tregelles-Price family were owners of the Iron Works in Neath Abbey. ). On the ffep opposite is the bookplate of 'Neath Antiquarian Society'. All volumes have a copper engraved Frontispiece and engraved title , followed by a printed title. The Engraved title shows the volumes noted as Vol. X. Part 1, Vol X. Part II and so on to Part V - but the Printed titles read Vol I; Vol II; Vol III; Vol III, Part II; Vol IV. On the foot of the spines the gilt titling reads Vol X, XI, XII, XIII, and XIV. No plate list in any volume but - Vol I = Frontispiece + engraved title + I Plates. Vol 2 = Frontispiece + engraved title + 21 plates. Vol 3 = Frontispiece + engraved title + 30 plates. Vol 4 = Frontispiece + engraved title + 40 plates. Vol 5 = Frontispiece + engraved title + 51 plates. 8vo (5 1/2" x 8 1/2") ; (In all 142 plates + 5 Frontispieces + engraved titles - Some plates show 2 views ) . Some pages partially cut or roughly cut, some foxing spots here and there, browning to the pages opposite the plates, 'tho for most part the plates are generally clean, but some have foxing/patching to the margins. Each volume varies re the condition of the text and the plates, but overall this is a tight, generally clean set. This set is overweight and very heavy at around 6.5 Kilos and will require extra postage for International buyers only. Please ask for costs. At the time of listing I have other volumes in this series, in uniform bindings but in various conditions - please enquire if interested. Undated, published circa 1818, this is a nicely bound example of this account of the county of Shropshire, bound in a recent quality half leather binding with marbled paper covered boards, internally illustrated with twenty-one hand-coloured plates and a folding hand-coloured map, this example is extra illustrated with two further hand-coloured antique maps of the county. The binding is in excellent condition, internally heavy foxing to a couple of pages, and noticeable offsetting to the plates which has caused browning to the opposing pages of text.
