Nil Fjodorowitsch Filatow (1847-1902) gilt als Begründer der russischen Pädiatrie und prägte das Fach durch klinische Vorlesungen und Lehrbücher, die vielfach übersetzt wurden. Er war Professor für Kinderheilkunde an der Moskauer Universität, leitete die Hludow/Chludovsche Kinderklinik (das erste speziell für Kinder gebaute Krankenhaus in Moskau) und gründete 1892 die Moskauer Gesellschaft für Kinderärzte. Medizinhistorisch ist Filatow besonders durch die Beschreibung wichtiger Kinderinfektionskrankheiten und -zeichen hervorgetreten: Er beschrieb u.a. die nach ihm benannte "Filatow-Dukes-Krankheit" (scarlatiniforme Röteln), frühe Formen der infektiösen Mononukleose ("idiopathische Entzündung der Halslymphknoten") und trug zur Charakterisierung der Maserneläsionen (Belski-Filatow-Koplik-Flecken) bei.
