Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. What happens when the second generation the children of immigrants moves to their parents homeland? A Place in the Homeland: Turkish-German Return Migration answers this question for the Turkish-German second-generation, sons and daughters of the Turkish guestworkers and political refugees…who migrated to Germany in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Based on 71 in-depth narrative interviews, their life-stories of growing up in German industrial cities and then returning to Turkey are traced through their experiences of childhood and socialisation, relocation to Turkey, earning a living, managing family and other relationships, adapting to an environment that many found challenging and developing new, hybrid identities in the ancestral homeland. The key finding is that place matters, and experiences are compared and contrasted between second-generation returnees in the megalopolis of Istanbul, the tourist city of Antalya and a range of provincial urban and rural environments in other regions of Turkey. Explores the Turkish-German second generation's movement back to Turkey. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This insightful Handbook provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving study of migration and diasporas across the new millennium. Bringing together leading scholars, it advances de-migranticization perspectives that situate experiences of individuals and communities within broader poli…tical, economic and spatial structures, rather than treating them as phenomena reducible to migration alone. Contributors demonstrate that diasporic, migrant and refugee lives are shaped by various factors, including ethnicity, culture, political pressures, global crises, digital transformations, transnationalism and their environment. Case studies spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America explore topics such as how identities, citizenship and belonging are negotiated and how technology reconfigures social connections and political ties. This Handbook reframes key debates in the field, advancing research by highlighting a breadth of perspectives, from post-imperial transnational communities to urban, queer and gendered diasporas. The Handbook on Diasporas and Migration is a valuable resource for scholars and students of development studies, urban studies and geography, politics and public policy as well as sociology. It will also benefit policymakers, government agencies, local authorities, NGOs and international institutions responsible for migration governance looking to develop culturally sensitive, context-specific interventions to support social cohesion and facilitate political and social inclusion. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
