Enveloppe jointe. bon Belle lettre du général Nivelle écrite d'Alger quelques jours avant l'armistice, relative au recrutement des élèves indigènes [après l'hécatombe du Chemin des Dames provoquée par la stratégie de Nivelle, qui a vu les Alliés perdre 350.000 hommes, il est "promu" en Afrique du Nord, loin du théâtre des opérations militaires]. «En raison des tendances bien connues de ce bureau à vouloir maintenir sa manière de voir, en dépit des instructions, parfois différentes, de l'autorité supérieure, je craindrais qu'on ne voulût orienter le nouveau commandant de l'école vers le retour à un recrutement provenant uniquement des grandes familles indigènes, à l'exclusion des excellents élèves fournis par les premiers sujets du peloton des élèves des sous-officiers et des jeunes gens ayant une instruction générale plus étendue [.]. Vous savez que le ministre, c'est à dire la Section d'Afrique, d'accord sans doute avec le colonel Chardenet, nous avait écrit dans ce sens au mois de mai.
