Er nimmt 'kontingente Subjektivität' als menschliche Selbstbeschreibung in den Blick und führt sie als (pädagogisch relevante) Markierung im Diskurs menschlicher Selbstverständigungen ein. Die Arbeit setzt sich aus zwei Teilen zusammen: Geburt und Tod des Subjekts - Oder: Annäherungen an eine strittige Selbstverständigung; Subjektivität und Kontingenz - Oder: Relationalität als menschliche Selbstverständigung. - Dass Menschen sich zu sich selbst verhalten, dass dieses dauernde Selbstverhältnis seinerseits konstitutives Moment der jeweiligen menschlichen Selbstbeschreibungen ist, ist weithin unumstritten und insbesondere in der neuzeitlich etablierten Selbstbeschreibungsformel »Subjekt« folgenreich ausgebaut worden. Dass aber dieses Selbstverständnis ein Resultat einseitiger Selbstverständigung ist, in der die jeweilige Konstituiertheit und Bedingtheit von Subjektivität unterschlagen wird, ist spätestens in den postmodernen Debatten zum »Tod des Subjekts« erkennbar geworden. Die Frage aber, wie sich denn Selbstbeschreibungen des Menschen diesseits der emphatischen Behauptungen und polemischen Bestreitungen des Subjekts formulieren lassen, ist im »Streit ums Subjekt« nicht nur nicht beantwortet, sondern allzu oft abgetan worden.
