Titel. - Erste [und einzige] Ausgabe. - Sehr schöne Folge von Kreidelithographien des Lübecker Totentanzes von Bernt Notke, durch den Lübecker Zeichenlehrer Ludwig Heinrich Matth…ias Hauttmann (1796-1861), der die Wortmannsche Kopie von 1701 in St. Marien in "ängstlicher Werktreue" wiedergibt. "Hauttmann hat die Figur des Herzogs, die zu seiner Zeit, wegen einer Türerweiterung schon nicht mehr in der Marienkirche zu sehen war, nach der Fassung von Donatius [Lübeck 1783] gezeichnet" (siehe Pieske, Christa: "Der Lübecker Totentanz in der Graphik" in Der Wagen 1968, S. 98ff). Außerdem schreibt Pieske zur lithographischen Anstalt von Hauttmann: "Hauttmann, dessen Vater als Maler in die Lübecker Tapetenfabrik berufen wurde, war vielseitig tätig. So ist es nicht verwunderlich, daß Vater und Sohn die sich in Lübeck erst allmählich durchsetzende Technik der Lithographie aufgriffen" (lithogr. Druckverfahren ab 1796, in Frankreich erfunden). - Das beidseitig bedruckte Textblatt mit den hochdeutschen Fersen von Nathanael Schlott. - Umschlag etwas randrissig, das Textblatt mit kleinem Knick am Rand, in sehr guter Erhaltung. Die lithogr. Tafeln mit kleinem Wasserrand im unterer linken Bereich (etwas in die Bildunterschriften gehend) und leicht stockfleckig. - Sehr seltene Totentanz-Folge, von der Pieske insgesamt nur vier Exemplare in Sammlungen nachweisen konnte. - *** 93 Jahre Antiquariat Arno Adler ***.

Jahrhunderts mit kleiner Vignette (Ansicht von Lübeck) von Alfred Mahlau. - Pieske, Christa: "Der Lübecker Totentanz in der Graphik" i…n Der Wagen 1968, S. 98ff. - Zweite Ausgabe der Weihnachten 1865 zuerst erschienenen Kreidelithographien von Carl Julius Milde, die den Totentanz Bernt Notkes in der Wortmannschen Kopie von 1701 in St. Marien wiedergeben. - Carl Julius Milde (1803-1875) war Schüler der Dresdener und Münchener Akademie, 1826 und 1830-32 in Rom im Kreis der Nazarener und seit 1838 in Lübeck tätig. Er war Begründer und erster Konservator der Altertümersammlung, Kunstforscher, Entdecker und Bewahrer zahlreicher mittelalterlicher Kunstwerke und gilt als der erste Lübecker Denkmalpfleger (ADB 21, S. 737ff). - "1852 restaurierte er den Totentanz in der Marienkirche, reinigte und firnißte ihn und legte mit dieser intensiven Beschäftigung den Grundstock für die graphische Reproduktion, die alles bisher gewesene in den Schatten stellen sollte. Mit der fundierten Einleitung von Professor Wilhelm Mantels, der sich kritisch mit der Bildgeschichte und den Texten auseinandersetzte, konnte zu Weihnachten 1865 ein gewichtiger Bildband vorgelegt werden" [. . .] "Mantels führte zur Mildeschen Kopie aus, daß dieser den Totentanz so wiedergegeben habe, wie er ihn sehen konnte. Es ist also die Todesgestalt und der Herzog ausgelassen worden, die bei der Türerweiterung 1799 herausgeschnitten wurden". Nach Pieske hat Wilhelm Schimmelbusch (1836-1903) die Steinzeichnungen nach den Kopien von Milde angefertigt. - Umschlag mit kleinen Einrissen am Rand, der hintere mit kleinem Ausriß in oberer rechter Ecke. Textblätter sehr gering fleckig. Die lithogr. Tafeln etwas stockfleckig, wenig in der Darstellung, meist rückseitig und im weißen Rand. Die Tafeln in Zweiergruppen mit kleinem Leinenstreifen der Zeit verbunden. - Seltene Totentanz-Folge, von der Pieske insgesamt nur vier Exemplare (davon nur eines der 2. Aufl.) in Sammlungen nachweisen konnte (jedoch Stand 1968). - *** 93 Jahre Antiquariat Arno Adler ***.
