Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Stated 'First edition limited to 1000 copies printed February 1944 of which this copy is 130.' Illustrated by 'Forty-six Full Page Half-tone Plates Reproduced from Original Photographs Made During the Exhibition.' With an eleven page essay by the author titled Survey Of Chinese Art And Culture. This book came from the personal library of Blanche Hixson Smith. The half-title page sports her colorless raised stamp. She was an editorial writer, book review and theater critic, travel editor and chief editorial writer of the Meriden Record (in Connecticut) from 1942 until 1962. You can see the covers in the photos. They are in pretty decent shape. There is a light water stain just adjacent to the spine on the front and rear. There are little creases at the two front corners. There is a closed tear coming up from the bottom edge of the front cover, and another closed tear coming down from the top edge of the rear cover. There are three tiny closed tears on the spine. There is an outline of two lines on the rear cover. The book is solidly bound. There are two instances of a space between facing pages in the Plate section. But all of the four pages are nicely, tightly bound from top to bottom. The interior of the book is in pretty nice condition. There is spotting/foxing on the blank verso of the frontispiece (a photograph of Mrs. Stanley Charles Nott). The frontispiece itself has several of these amber spots on its white margin, none on the photograph itself. The title page looks good, just a few blending amber spots off its bottom edge, small creases at its two corners, no soiling. All the text pages are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling or spotting any of them. This includes the Foreword, the Contents page, the three pages which make up the List of Plates, the Acknowledgments page, a page listing the Honourary Fellowships granted during 1944 and the Honourary Life Members which include a Brigadier-General, a General, a Colonel, and a Lieutenant- Colonel. The text pages also include a two-page Introduction, and a one-page Author's Preface, two pages listing Chinese Dynasties and Periods, and finally the author's aforementioned essay. The plates are on semi-glossy paper. Several of the early ones have some amber spotting at their margins. On most of the others there is little to none, and mostly not very conspicuous. On both sides of the junctures of the pages with Plates, limited to the white margin, you can see what looks like the outline of a thin water stain. On no page does it come close to the plates. There are some pages with a very light crease or crinkle near to their top corners. There are no placeholder creases. The bottom corners have tiny, light creases. And there are small creases on both sides of the junctures of all the pages coming up at the highest point one inch from their bottom edge, and horizontally going out only one half of an inch on both sides of the juncture. So these creases do not come anywhere near the print or the plates. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere.
