Wie alle Monokulturen durch Schadinsekten und Krankheiten st?rker gef?hrdet sind als die nat?rlichen Pflanzengesellschaften, so auch unter unseren wichtigsten Kulturpflanzen die Zuckerr?be, zu deren bedeutendsten Insektensch?dlingen die R?benfliege (Pegomya betae und P. hyoscyami) geh?rt. Die Verbreitung dieses zu den Dipteren geh?renden Insekts, das in vielen L?ndern der Erde als Sch?dling ins Gewicht f?llt, deckt sich im wesentlichen mit den Anbaugebieten der Zuckerr?be. Die R?benfliege, deren Puppen im Boden ?berwintern, schl?pft im Fr?hjahr und legt ihre Eier an den R?benbl?ttern ab. Die Larven minieren in drei Stadien die Bl?tter und bohren sich dann zur Verpuppung in den Boden ein. In einer Vegetationsperiode kommen in Mitteleuropa drei Generationen der R?benfliege vor, von denen die erste zur Zeit des 2- bis 6-Blattstadiums der R?be die bedeutendste ist.
