No Binding. Condizione: Collectible-Near Fine (Near Fi. Signature of Robert H. Nugen in black ink on an off-white piece of paper tipped in on sheet of beige paper. The paper with signature has been carefully adhered over a window at the center of the paper sheet. Signed, "R. H. Nugen, Newcomerstown, Ohio." No date, circa 1840s-1860s. Paper with signature: 4 1/4" x 1 1/2." Beige sheet of paper (backing): 6" x 9." Signature is virtually pristine and intact. The piece of paper with signature is virtually pristine and intact except for minuscule age toning. The beige sheet of paper is very clean and intact except for slight age toning, a small crease in lower-right corner on front, and a few spots of discoloration on front and back (most noticeable on back). A Near Fine copy. Robert H. Nugen (1809-1872) was an American politician. Nugen was born in Pennsylvania but moved with his parents to Ohio in 1811. He held several local political positions and was a delegate to the 1860 Democratic National Convention before serving as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Ohio's 15th District from 1861-1863. After retiring from politics, Nugen served as Superintendent of the Ohio Canal until his passing in 1872. Nugen passed away in Newcomerstown, Ohio which is also where he is interred.
