Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Eduard Cuypers (18591927) was one of the most celebrated architects in the Netherlands in the 1890s. Known for much of the development of the time throughout Indonesia, yet working from Amsterdam, Cuypers and his firm designed numerous projects in collaboration with Marius Hulswit (18621921) and Arthur Fermont (18821967). Their buildings are landmarks in architectural styles that vary from classic to expressive and from art deco to decorative. Many of these buildings are still standing in cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, Padang, Semarang, Surakarta, Yogyakarta, and Malang. Landmarks from a Bygone Era presents a fascinating story about these buildings and the people behind them. Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. In Architecture from the Indonesian Past, Obbe H. Norbruis tells the story of a celebrated Dutch architecture firm, its unique buildings, and their designers. Fermont-Cuypers designed many buildings significant in Indonesias history beginning in 1927 when an uprising broke out against the Dutch in the colony. In the early 1930s, the firm drew up plans for many schools, churches, villas, and offices. At the end of the 1930s the firm began to design hospitals, head offices, hotels, and even a passenger terminal in Tanjung Priok. The expected tourism boom never materialized due to the German invasion of the Netherlands, and World War II soon had an impact on the region. After Indonesian independence, Fermont-Cuypers experienced a resurgence through 1958, designing many buildings that still exist today in cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, Bandung, Makassar, and Palembang. Aggiungi al carrelloVolendam, LM Publishers, [2018]. 319 pp. B./w. & col. ills. Hardcover. With great ease, one building after another was constructed in the Dutch East Indies. Newspapers repeatedly wrote jubilantly of them as 'a jewel for the city'. The man behind this was Eduard Cuypers (1859-1927). Around 1900, he and his firm were among the most celebrated architects in the Netherlands. Due to new architectural ideas, he eventually faced difficulties in the Netherlands, and as the years passed, he was virtually silenced. Working from Amsterdam, he subsequently shifted his field of work partly to the Dutch East Indies, where, in collaboration with Marius Hulswit (1862-1921) and Arthur Fermont (1882-1967), countless buildings were realized. Many of these still exist; Indonesia is proud of them. This is the fascinating story of those buildings and the people behind them. [Publisher].

Aggiungi al carrello[Volendam], LM Publishers, [2018]. 294 pp., ills, 4to, gebonden. This book describes the architectural work of the Fermont-Cuypers firm. The story follows the firm through uprisings, the economic crisis, the Second World War, and Indonesian independence, until the expulsion of the Dutch in 1957. The buildings designed by the firm, such as schools, churches, villas, offices, hospitals, and hotels, still exist and Indonesia is proud of them, whereas this chapter in Dutch architectural history often remains unknown. The author, Obbe Norbruis, studied architecture and urban planning in Delft and expanded his research into colonial architecture in Indonesia. - Text in Dutch.
