Der Autor stellt zunächst das jüdische Jahr mit seinen Feiertagen, Bräuchen und Riten vor, die immer wieder Thema der Erzählungen sind. Im zweiten Kapitel beschreibt er die erzählerische Gattung - von ihren Ursprüngen über die künstlerischen Höhepunkte bis zur vollständigen Zerstörung der in den Ghettogeschichten beschriebenen Welt im 20. Jahrhundert. Obers stellt die wichtigsten Autoren, Motive, Themen und strukturellen Elemente der Ghettogeschichte dar und ordnet sie im Kontext der deutschen Literaturgeschichte ein. 160 Seiten mit 6 Tafeln, broschiert (Kleine Schriften zur Aufklärung; Band 11/Wallstein Verlag 2001).
