Book condition - Good plus ; contents clean,title page a trifle dusty, no foxing, no inscriptions in text, one minor gift inscription inside the front board, pale brown endpapers though lacking the free endpaper at the back, inside the front board is a bookplate which has been partially worn or rubbed away ( the name on the bookplate is 'William Noble' , with the motto ' Virtute et Valore' ), the inner hinges show splitting but the binding remains very secure ; publisher's green cloth with gilt title on the spine and gilt illustration of cricketers on the front, blind ornate pattern front and back, ; fore-edge corners show some rubbing and are bent , boards' edges are all good, the back board is clean with just a little patchy colour fading at the top corner, the spine is complete with the ends creased but not split, spine gilt is a little rubbed but the title remains complete and bright, the front is clean and again with faint, patchy colour loss towards the top corner, the front gilt illustration is a touch rubbed but remains complete and bright. Please see photos for indications of condition and contents. Nicholas Wanostrocht ( 1804 - 1876), was an English amateur "gentleman" cricketer, a specialist left-handed batsman and more commonly known by his pseudonym,' Felix'. He played for Kent from 1830 until 1852, appeared for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and was a member of the All England Eleven. (Summary from Wikipedia, where a fuller account can be found) . William Noble (born 1855 ?) is difficult to identify with any certainty, but is most likely to have been barrister-at-law and also Recorder ( or Judge) at Newark, Nottinghamshire, whose arms were granted in 1886.
