Juli 1835 zu Kiel als ältester Sohn des Orientalisten Prof. Justus O., studierte in Kiel und Königsberg, prom. 1857 zu Königsberg, wurde Assistent E. Martin's in Berlin und Hohl's i…n Halle a. S., habilitierte sich in Halle für Gyn. 1862, wurde daselbst 1863 Prof. e. o. und 1864 ord. Prof. 1887 als Nachfolger C. Schröder's nach Berlin berufen, übernahm er dort die Direktion der Univ.-Frauenklinik. Seine Hauptarbeiten sind: "Krankheiten der Ovarien" (im Handb. der Frauenkrankhh. von Billroth Stuttgart 1877; 2. Aufl. in der Deutschen Chir. von Billroth und Lücke 1886) - "Klinische Beiträge zur Gynäkologie und Geburtshülfe" (Ib. 1884) - "Die abdominalen Myomoperationen" und "Schwangerschaft und Myom" (in Veit's Handb. der Gyn., II 1897). Ferner viele Journalartikel in der Monatsschr. für Geburtsh, dem A. f. G., der B. k. W., der D. Z. f. Ch., Volkmann's klin. Vortrr. und der Z. f. G. u. G. Die letztgenannte Zeitschr. redigiert er von 1887 an. Besonders hervorzuheben sind die Arbeiten: "Ueber spondylolisthetische Becken" - "Ueber Lufteintritt in die Uterusvenen" - "Ueber Haematocele und Haematometra" - "Ueber den Kindesschädel in diagnost. Beziehung" - "Ueber Endometritis fungosa" - "Ueber Myomotomie" - "Ueber Totalexstirpation des carcinomatösen Uterus" - "Ueber die Principien der Totalexst. des carcinomatösen Uterus" - "Ueber Metastasen gutartiger Ovarialkystome" - "Ueber Extrauterinschwangerschaft" - "Ueber Bauchdeckenfibrome."
