Dit als proefschrift geschreven boek behandelt de politiek-economische situatie in het begin van de vorige eeuw in Europa en Zuid-Amerika en de politiek van de Nederlandse regering. Daarna wordt gedetailleerd ingegaan op de reis van de 'Lynx' die onder gezag stond van kapt.-lt. ter zee Willinck. De tweede helft van het boek bestaat uit het reisverslag van Willinck zelf. Dit helder geschreven en prachtig uitgegeven boek zal, ook door de uitvoerige noten en bijlagen voor in (marine-) geschiedenis en zeereizen geinteresseerden een waardevol, rijk werk zijn. Bevat enkele zwart-witte afbeeldingen en dito kaarten.
