On sait peu de choses sur l'auteur des Halieutiques, mais il ne faut pas le confondre avec Oppien de Syrie, auteur des Cynégétiques. Bon exemplaire (dos très lég. frotté). (sans le quatrième feuillet liminaire blanc qui manque toujours), 202 pp., maroquin rouge, filet doré en encadrement, dos lisse orné de double filets dorés et, en tête, d'un chiffre doré couronné, coupes et bordures décorées, tranches dorées (reliure vers 1800). Très belle édition, dit Thiébaud, restituant ces deux poèmes consacrés à la pêche et la chasse longtemps attribués au seul Oppien d'Anazarbe (IIe siècle). On sait maintenant que celui consacré à la chasse est l'?uvre d'Oppien de Syrie (début du IIe siècle). Le texte grec a été établi par Adrien Turnèbe et publié par ses soins, juste avant qu'il n'obtienne la place de professeur royal en grec et ne se démette de son emploi d'Imprimeur du Roi au profit de Guillaume Morel. La traduction latine, imprimée chez ce même Guillaume Morel, est donnée par le savant helléniste Lorenzo Lippi (1440-1485). Très bel exemplaire, entièrement réglé, et très grand de marges (228 mm). Il provient de la fameuse bibliothèque de Chatsworth des ducs de Devonshire et leur ex-libris et leur chiffre doré et couronné au dos. Ex-libris comte Le Moyne de Martigny.
